Job Creation and Rights Projects

KOF is currently implementing the job creation and Rights program in South Western Uganda in districts of greater Bushenyi Districts i.e Bushenyi, Sheema, Rubirizi, Buhweju, and Mitoma under Community Wealth Creation a program of Government of Uganda.

KOF applies multi peer-led and community engagement strategies to advocate for and provide comprehensive integrated job creation and Rights and information for vulnerable and key populations in greater Bushenyi districts. KOF also utilizes youth groups as a platform for promoting safer employment and behavioral change and technical skill building for vulnerable and key populations. KOF supports youth leaders to facilitate technical hand skills building group sessions for adolescents and young women; carry out extensive community mobilization and promotion for integrated technical skill services; and link the vulnerable and key populations to integrated holistic services aimed at reducing the risk of unemployment and violence.

Project Specific Objectives Include:

  • To expand access and increase use of quality cheap materials, inclusive and available resources among the vulnerable and Key populations
  • To increase adoption of current economic situations among vulnerable communities and key populations
  • To enable conducive environment for vulnerable and key populations.
  • To strengthen institutional capacity of implementing organizations to deliver quality and quantity services in Uganda Strengthening Community development
  • KOF with support from private sector foundation and institutions is implementing a community mobilization activity for 5 districts of Uganda. The five target districts are Sheema Bushenyi, buhwenju, mitoma and Rubirizi. The overall goal of this proposed project is to contribute to the increased access and affordability of quality services to families in rural and semiā€urban communities in the districts already indicated. This will be achieved through initiatives to expand and strengthen the savings among community savings groups while promoting and providing community developments.
  • More success has been achieved in the 11 months of the project which can be evidenced by the increase number of women in need of services which are as a result of increased sensitization through radio, community sensitization meetings by the mobilizers and other project staff, increased programme uptake and increased desire from all the project Districts to have the project continued. We are confident that we shall achieve more in this last quarter that we have achieved not ruling out the challenges that we continue to face especially poverty that affects the project enrolment and construction of new project headquarters and offices.

Project Outcomes

We have been able to do the following in this quarter that ended on January 2021:

  • To enroll beneficiaries into the project has increased and we were able to enrol 890 beneficiaries within last year
  • Participatory radio talk shows aimed at creating awareness about Community development were held covering the project Districts which helped to dispel myths and misconceptions about vulnerable community developments. These radio programmes helped to increase the enrolment into the programme.
  • Mobilization and sensitization meetings/trainings for Local leaders at Sub-County, District and parish levels and church leaders was done which helped the leaders to understand Community development skills and they support it and mobilize people in their different locations to enrol and benefit from the project.
  • Exchange learning visits were organised for KOF technical skills and hand crafts which has ready market in and outside Uganda
  • Another highlight was the invitation and attendance of KOF to the National Community via the graduation of our students which was commissioned by the president of the government of Uganda
